When is the last time you heard someone in your community thank you for "looking out" for their them? What about in your church family? The life of Jesus was a life devoted to servanthood. He healed the sick, He fed the hungry, and He cared for people. He was always looking out! "Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve..." (Matt 20:28 NIV) We are to follow in the footsteps of Christ and serve our community by "looking out".
There's a quote that says something along the lines of "You can preach a better sermon with your life than you can with your lips". More often then not, the way we live our life as disciples of Christ and servants to our community will draw more people to church then preaching will. With the witness and power of The Holy Spirit we can make an impact in our community.
Acts 9:36 NIV
....there was a disciple named Tabitha; she was always doing good and helping the poor.
The disciple Tabitha was always looking out, and it's what she was known for! So here is your charge church, how can you start looking out for your community? There are people in our community that need food, they need clothes, but most of all they need the love of Jesus. Let's be the hands and feet of Christ and start looking out for our community.
Romans 15:5 (NIV)
May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had.
